Abstract
The importance of this thesis lies in its ability to understand the dynamics of conflicts and
creating a greater understanding of how the mediation process can be used for the resolution of
conflicts with a particular focus on personal development and how forgiveness can aid this
process. This research has chosen mixed methodologies and gathered a sample size based on 100
responses. The data analysis has been performed based on demographic and thematic analysis.
The results of this research have shown that around 60 percent of the respondents were male and
40 percent were female. 19 percent respondents were from 18 to 25 years, 41 percent of
respondents ranged from 26 to 30 years, 11 percent of respondents were between the ages of 31
to 40 while 29 percent respondents were from 40 years or above. The main themes that were
highlighted in this research were the use of forgiveness throughout the mediation process for
dealing with conflicts, strategies for resolving conflicts effectively, potential benefits of
forgiveness in the conflict resolution and mediation process, potential benefits of assistance from
third parties, and potential of forgiveness in rebuilding relationships.
